Anti-corruption Summit at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, on April 27-28, 2011

Dear Friends,

A cancerous strain has besieged the soul of India.
Amidst corruption woes that the country and its patriotic citizens have been reeling from, Transparency International India (TII) and 5th Pillar are hosting an anti-corruption Summit at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, on April 27-28, 2011.  As you may already be aware, TII is the India chapter of Transparency International, an international civil society organization headquartered in Berlin advocating transparency and ethical governance worldwide.  5th Pillar, a citizens' movement, was founded as a grass-roots initiative with a mission to enable and empower every citizen to seek transparency and accountability in governance.
In line with our desire to have a conference with very actionable outcomes, we have  an agenda that covers topics such as the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) treaty ratification, empowering civil society coalitions against corruption, and 'Stolen Assets Recovery'. The Summit  will be a convergence of many international and national domain experts, Youth voices, business visionaries, politicians, bureaucrats and grassroots development specialists.   The Summit promises to be 2 days of inspiring talks, actionable ideas and aspirational forums…..with experts from the UN, World Bank, SHERPA (France) and more, including many national experts like Arun Maira, S.Y. Quraishi, Aruna Roy and more  who will engage in interactive sessions with the audience.   For more details, please visit the website

We hope this convention, rather than being a one-time event, will signify a springboard for more engaged conversations, sustained collaborations and ACTION from all relevant constituencies. It is our desire that we ally, collaborate and bring together bright minds from around the country, harboring the aspirational spirit and fondness for the idea of a truly vibrant India that we want to see. In that spirit, we would like to invite you to attend this Summit.

Thanks and regards,
Shobila Kali

Most of the communities in the entire Indian sub-continent(such as Bengali) are succumbed in ‘Culture of Poverty'(Oscar Lewis), irrespective of class or economic strata, lives in pavement or apartment. Nobody is genuinely regret ed or ashamed of the deep-rooted corruption, decaying general quality of life, worst Politico-admin system, bad work place, weak mother language, continuous consumption of common social space (mental as well as physical, both). We are becoming fathers & mothers only by self-procreation, mindlessly & blindfold(supported by some lame excuses). Simply depriving their(the children) fundamental rights of a decent, caring society, fearless & dignified living. Do not ever look for any other positive alternative behaviour (values) to perform human way of parenthood, i.e. deliberately co-parenting children those are born out of ignorance, extreme poverty. It seems that all of us are being driven only by the very animal instinct. If the Bengali people ever be able to bring that genuine freedom (from vicious cycle of ‘poverty’) in their own attitude, involve themselves in ‘Production of healthy & decent Space’ (Henri Lefebvre), an intense attachment with the society at large - one different pathway has to create to overcome inherent 'hopeless' mindset; decent, rich Politics will definitely come up. – Siddhartha Bandyopadhyay, 16/4, Girish Banerjee Lane, Howrah -711101.
